What sort of music do people like and what song are you listening to now?
I'm into quite a wide variety of music but my favourite genres would be progressive metal and rock, jazz, fusion and classical composers such as Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Schubert, Vivaldi and Handel.
At the moment I'm listening to the album Leftoverture by the band Kansas.
One currently lurking by the cd player...my tastes vary.

I especially like his song anti social behaviour which questions why working class kids are kneecapped while the "man in the suit" always gets away with it.

I find Smashing Pumpkins to be a bit hit and miss at times, but overall they're a very talented band. Apparently Billy Corgan is a complete autocrat and the others always had a very limited input creatively speaking. John Iha was in A Perfect Circle for a time, ever listened to them?

Thanks Viv and Quirk!!!! love it..... go raibh maith agat....
my tastes are eclectic... classic rock, bluegrass, folk, Native American drum songs, to opera and symphony. And someone is trying to drag me kicking and screaming into European chill music... LOL...and its working i like it!
my all time song writing heroes are Bob Dylan and John Lennon. I must confess to being a U2 fanatic. Annie Lennox and Joan Baez have voices that send shivers down my spine.
I've become addicted to the transatlantic sessions on Youtube with irish and american singers. Mary Black and Emmy Lou Harris together are amazing.
And quiz for you all... what famous rockers came from Kansas??????
Right now my radio is on and the Stones, Paint it Black, is playing.

Eric Johnson is kind of classic rock, but not really, and kind of modern rock, but not really. It's hard to find a genre for him. He's a great guitarist though.

You like Handel eh?
At Christmas I went to see Handel's Messiah brilliant work. I'm curious to see what you like of Handels work? Most of it is based on religious themes I thought, such as Judas Maccabeus also.
Also Vivaldi is also nice. His programme music such as the Four Seasons is brilliant. Just thinking about it explains what he is trying to do with the respective instrument. I have to admit I like clever music.

Handel's Messiah is great. I also love some of his countertenor work, in particular a piece called Ombra mai fu with Andrea Scholl singing. Scholl is probably the best countertenor in the world at the moment. The fact that both Handel and Vivaldi were religious (wasn't Vivaldi a priest?) doesn't bother me in the slightest, in case you were wondering.
