So elaborate. do you belive in life after death, or do we only go around once? do you believe in reincarnation/ heaven or hell? and why?

My feeilng is that we have many lives. We can't possibly learn everything the universe wants us to know in one lifetime. There's just too much. I think it's a little like Groundhog day when we keep coming back until we get it right.

I don't necessarily think like the Hindus that we come back as cats or dogs or cows, but ya know it wouldn't be a bad idea for an animal abuser to come back in the next life to live with someone like himself.

not sure how it all works. I do some animal communicaiton and people have asked me to talk to departed pets. Each of the pets has told me that their spirits come back as another animal when the person is ready to open his or her heart again.

so if pets do it, why would our spirits die with our earthly bodies?

My supposedly Catholic grandmother used to call me an old soul. I was always raised with a sympathetic view of "alternative" afterlives (alternative to the traditional Catholic idea). I never believed in hell.

Right now, I tend to think that life is a one-off. I don't know by what miracle of nature we managed to develop a self speculating conscious out of our bundle of cells, but I suspect that with that bundle of cells goes our conscious, and when we are dead, we are wholly dead, and live on only in the memory of others. There is no eternity for the soul.

On the other hand, sometimes I think there is. I think you would call me agnostic these days.

This comment...is interesting.

For me, nothing leaves this planet...

I don't see it as a conscious afterlife or reincarnation, we are just organic matter. As with all organic matter, we will be absorbed and in some way will be part of the earth and recycle as something...

I am not a romantic in this respect, not religious. When you die, your essence is gone.

Read Pauls' first letter to the Corinthians, The Gospels, and the Revelation to John, and that's exactly what I think of the afterlife. :)

Care to share with those of us who don't have a Bible on hand precisely what this means to you?

Maybe condensed in three to five sentences?

Not sure, the evidence would indicate our brains do not survive death.

Basically upon death we will be judged by Jesus Christ, and a new earth will come before us and a New Jerusalem. God will live among people, and we will inherit a new body. Those who have honoured God will be honoured by Him in return.

We could get into the hell discussion, also. I don't particularly think there is much Biblical basis for purgatory.

However, I deal with the here and now, as this is part of my calling. When dealing with questions, I deal with what God through His Son Jesus Christ, can do for us as individuals on earth.

it's referred to as the Christbody (1 Corinthians 15). I don't know quite the ins and outs :)

Will there be copious amounts of sex, drugs and alcohol?

And really good music?

If not you can count me out. :D

I think we get what we expect to receive. It's quite possible that all the options in the poll are true. Who's to say we can't experience a literal eternity in heaven in that last millisecond before our lights go out for good? Our experience of time is entirely relative, after all...

Oh, I hope so. I lost my beloved kitty Brutus two summers ago. I still have his 16-yo sister/littermate, but Brutus was special.I'd love for him to return to me.:)

When I read the other answers and then read this one, I cannot help but be impressed by the astounding creativity behind religion.

Who took the time to make all that up? It really is fascinating.

Fictional, though.
