I thought this thread would be useful to get an idea of what ideas and what suggestions could help to put forward this forum, and to get more members to be a part of WorldAgenda.net.

We have successfully installed the Thank You mod, updated to VBulletin 3.7.2, and now we are looking forward to making some more changes in the next while. All ideas are perfectly welcome and will be considered.

Here are some suggestions off the top of my head:

When deleting nasty insults, it would be a good idea to delete all of them, including where they have been quoted in subsequent posts, otherwise people will still be reading the same garbage.

Also, show less tolerance for trolls since they will run members off. Freedom of speech is one thing, but constant trolling and insults detract from any forum and I have seen such behavior bring forums as well as email lists down. Nobody likes to ban, but nobody likes to deal with such behavior, either.

It would be nice to have a Report feature by each post so that a person can immediately bring a problematic post to the staff's attention. I looked for one the other day and couldn't find it. I may be overlooking it, though since most forums have this feature. I think.

If/when I think of more ideas, I will share them here. :)

Indeed, I thought we took it too slow in the last case, hopefully we can learn from what has happened and move more swiftly in future cases. Thanks for your feedback, I was thinking the same myself.

It's already there, there is a little warning button underneath each post (http://worldagenda.net/forum/images/mistystyle/buttons/report.gif), and this is referred to all the moderators / administrators to discuss. Thanks very much for your interest and concern.

There is no such button underneath any posts on my screen. Believe me, I've looked.

So my next suggestion would be for someone (Quirk?) to fix it so I can see it. :p

Does this forum have an ignore feature?

Also the thanks mod is ok, but could we try a rep system, I like that a whole bunch better.

i agree the rep system is nice too. I believe it does have ignore feature though i dont know how to access it. Gareth might i believe he put UShad on ignore.

For the ignore list, go to "User CP" and select "Edit Ignore List" from the menu on the left. Add whoever you want ignored to the list. ;)

I passed some ideas to Quirk, but I just wanted to support this suggestion.

I read the posts by UShaditcoming. I know you guys think I am soft, but freedom of speech is one thing...I really don't want to read things like that.

And people don't have to. There are many decent forums now. I think you have to deal with things like that as Lightweaver suggests.

Edit] And Gareth, did you steal my dancing man smiley, you git.;) It doesn't look as impressive here anyway:D:p

The Thank You Mod kind of serves as a rep system do you want me to put how many thanks you have received underneath your avatar? You can see how many thanks you have received on your profile in the Statistics section but it is possible to have it underneath your name also.

And Viv, no I haven't installed any of the recent smileys.

Ohhh man, I'm out of here. I hate rep systems. Never post in places which have them, I absolutely loathe them...sorry about that.

Get away from me Xavier...:p

Many things...

immature popularity contest
discourages integrity in posting (if you're childish enough to be affected by it)
I am basically insecure and really don't like them at all

This is not a one-off. I've left two other forums for the same reason, I really really hate them.

How do you switch it off? Can that be done via my user cp?

Gareth

Viv, if you go to the bottom of the page or to your User CP and set your page style to Kirsch 3.7.x it won't show anymore.

To me or to everyone?

For anyone who uses that theme, but on the green and blue one yes it will show.

I'm indifferent to having a rep system but I have seen them abused by people who give negative reps just because they don't like a person, and not because a post was bad. One idea would be to only have positive reps available. But I really don't care either way. ;)

Another idea: that BBC news bot posts a LOT of threads and I wonder if the setting could be changed for it to post a smaller amount. Newsbots are good but this one posts so many threads that it can cause threads started by members to be moved to the bottom and disappear. I'd rather see more original posts by members and I wonder if they are just disappearing due to being pushed to the bottom.

The beauty of the thanks mod is that you can't give negative, you can only thank people.

Well we can move topics of interest from the BBC bot to the forums, if you just PM the admins / moderators.
