CA polls not possible under prevailing security situation: Deuba
Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, Feb 11 - Former Prime Minister and senior Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that it would not be possible to hold the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections on April 10 under the current security situation.
Addressing a function of the party’s sister organisation Nepal Magar Association in the capital on Monday, Deuba said, “The elections cannot be held in the current fragile security situation.”
Deuba had already proposed postponing the twice-deferred polls again citing the lack of proper security environment earlier during a seven-party meeting as well.
The NC leader, who recently campaigned for the upcoming CA polls in nearly 20 districts, claimed that the people, both in Madhes and the hills, were not in a condition to exercise their franchise due to the lack of security.
Deuba, however, warned that the country would slide into an ‘unfortunate situation’ if the elections were not held this time.
He also informed that he would take up the matter regarding improving the peace and security situation with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
