KATHMANDU, Feb 29 - The Election Commission (EC) on Friday unveiled its new electoral programmes for the Constituent Assembly (CA) under first-past-the-post (FPTP) system making amendments.

As per the changes, the programmes earlier fixed from February 29 to March 2 will be suspended. The procedures carried out till yesterday will not be affected by the changes.

The EC announced that the suspended electoral programmes will be carried out together according to the amended programmes.

The EC has brought amendments in the CA electoral programmes on the request of the government to facilitate the parties who have missed submitting the candidates’ name-list for the April 10 polls.

The amendment allows candidates contesting the CA polls under FPTP system, except those not included in the name-list made public yesterday, to file their nominations on March 6. The EC will publicise the name-list registered for FPTP on the same day.

On March 8, the EC will be publicising the name-list after studying the nominations paper and the complaints, which may be lodged against the candidates on March 7.

Candidates may withdraw their nominations on March 9 and the EC will give away the electoral symbol to the political parties on the same day publishing the finale name-list, according to the new electoral programmes.

The meeting of the EC, Thursday evening, decided to fix March 2 for submitting closed-list for proportional election representation system.

39 parties have filed closed-list under PR system for the CA polls and 33 parties under FPTP system on the deadlines fixed earlier by the EC.
