I just wanted to see what peoples opinion is on the EU constitution. Do you support it, oppose it or really don't care either way?
Also in the south of Ireland there is a refurendum on it some time in the coming year (no date yet as far as I know) so will any of the Irish posters on the board be active in either of the yes or no campaigns?

I will be active in asking people to vote no. Due to the clause which gives the voter no chance to have a say if the EU want to reform again.

I will be actively campaigning against this treaty. Why break the habit of a lifetime?
Seriously it continues the move towards an even more undemocratic Europe and further ties Ireland into a more militarised European Union and closer to NATO.

I will be actively campaigning against the Lisbon treaty.
The IRSP and RSYM will most likely support one of the broad-based campaigns that are due to start in the spring.
For those living the Dublin area there will be a meeting in Liberty Hall (Room 207) on Wednesday 23rd January at 7:30pm.
The subject of the talk is "The erosion of civil liberties in the European Union".
All are welcome.
This is part of a series of talks organised by the People's Movement. The meetings have so far been very enlightening as regards certain aspects of the EU that are generally kept out of the public eye; such as the European Defence Agency. It would seem the Dublin government is trying to bring the armaments industry to the Free State through the back door.

I must say so far I'am undecided on whether I am against the treaty or for it. At the moment I' am more orientated towards rejecting it on the grounds that it undermines the sovreignty the member states and of course the threat to Irish neutrality with the creation of a common European army. It also leads to the creation of a superstate which again is a fear of mine.
However on the pro side you have in effect a stronger social policy within the Union, it should tackle poverty and discrimination of all types
more agressivly within the member states. In the long run the creation of a superstate could lead to a socialist state which would be positive but since the Union is built upon countries with very strong capitalist traditions this is unlikey to be the out come.
As I already stated I' m currently undecided but I am more likely to go against the treaty:confused:

Aznar and Berlusconi wrote it... the reincarnations of Franco and Mussolini... that Constitution cannot be different from their "parents". Self-determination is totally avoided, so it's not a very democratical constitution. And it's a unifying text to support capitalism, an antidemocratical system.
Here we know how capitalism and fascists support the constitution. It means their ideals got to a non-questionable level "because it's a law",and even more... "it's a law supported by a referendum" It doesn't care if participation was minimum or how many times they may need. If people just say 'yes' once it's enough for them. And people said 'yes' to Hitler...

Referendum is on the 13th of June.
We must end this Neo-Liberal institution before it ends us.
